  1. Mute Swan- seen at several sites in the Camargue
  2. Greylag Goose- seen at several sites in the Camargue
  3. Shelduck- one juvenile seen at Etang du Fangassier
  4. Mallard- very common in the Camargue
  5. Gadwall- common in the Camargue
  6. Garganey- a female near La Capeliere in the Camargue
  7. Red-crested Pochard- a single female at Salin de Badons
  8. Common Pochard- two males at Parc Ornothologique du Pont de Gau
  9. Red-legged Partridge- several at Eyguieres Airstrip at La Crau and at Mas de l'Aveugle
  10. Quail- a pair flushed while walking at Mas de l'Aveugle
  11. Black-necked Grebe- a very large flock (possibly up to 200) at La Capeliere, in the Camargue
  12. Great Crested Grebe- large numbers at several sites in the Camargue
  13. Cormorant- very common in the Camargue
  14. Black-crowned Night Heron- seen close at the Parc Ornotholigique and at Pont des Tourradons
  15. Squacco Heron- seen regularly around the Camargue, particularly well at Salin des Badons
  16. Cattle Egret- abundant everywhere in the Camargue
  17. Little Egret- very common in the Camargue and also on the Gardon River
  18. Great White Egret- common across the Camargue
  19. Grey Heron- very common in most areas
  20. Purple Heron- very common in the Camargue, particularly at Mas d'Agon
  21. White Stork- small groups regularly seen in fields around the Camargue 
  22. Black Stork- five at Salin des Badons
  23. Glossy Ibis- very common at Mas d'Agon and Pont des Tourradons
  24. Spoonbill- two at Salin des Badons
  25. Greater Flamingo- large flocks at Etang du Fangassier and Etang des Vaccares, and one at Salin d B
  26. Griffon Vulture- group of 12 flew over Circque de Navacelles in the Cevennes
  27. Black Vulture- one with the group of Griffon Vultures in the Cevennes
  28. Osprey- single birds seen on two occasions above the Gardon River
  29. Short-toed Eagle- seen regularly at Mas de l'Aveugle and in the Cevennes
  30. Booted Eagle- one over the Pont du Gard
  31. Red Kite- one over Mas de l'Aveugle (surprisingly no black kites in Provence)
  32. Marsh Harrier- common in the Camargue, seen particularly well at Mas d'Agon
  33. Hen Harrier- adult male seen very well at Mas de l'Aveugle
  34. Montagu's Harrier- female at Etang du Fangassier and a male seen near Pont des Tourradons
  35. Common Buzzard- common at all sites
  36. Honey-buzzard- seen regularly at Mas de l'Aveulge (including a group of 12) and extremely close at Mt Ventoux
  37. Sparrowhawk- seen regularly at most sites
  38. Goshawk- one flying high at Mt Ventoux and another over Mas de l'Aveugle
  39. Common Kestrel- common at most sites
  40. Lesser Kestrel- ten seen at close range nesting in abandoned building at Retour des Aires, La Crau
  41. Red-footed Falcon- the bird of the trip- stunning adult male perched on roadside wire at Le Sambuc, Camargue.
  42. Hobby- seen on three occasions at Mas de l'Aveugle, including a pair hunting
  43. Eleonora's Falcon- a great surprise to find one soaring high at Mt Ventoux
  44. Peregrine Falcon- one over Mas de l'Aveugle, and one at Terme Blanc, La Crau
  45. Moorhen- common in the Camargue
  46. Coot- common in the Camargue
  47. Little Bustard- five (!) at Eyguieres Airstrip, La Crau
  48. Avocet- large numbers at Etang du Fangassier
  49. Black-winged Stilt- common across the Camargue, particularly at Salin des Badons and Pont des Tourradons
  50. Collared Pratincole- sadly not seen by me, but only by my father at Salin des Badons
  51. Little Ringed Plover- good numbers at Etang du Fangassier
  52. Common Ringed Plover- very large numbers at Etang du Fangassier
  53. Kentish Plover- large numbers at Etang du Fangassier
  54. Eurasian Dotterel- a group numbering at least twenty at Terme Blanc, La Crau
  55. Lapwing- common across the Camargue
  56. Dunlin- very common at Etang du Fangassier
  57. Curlew Sandpiper- several at Etang du Fangassier
  58. Temminck's Stint- one at Etang du Fangassier
  59. Little Stint- very large numbers at Etang du Fangassier
  60. Wood Sandpiper- about 30 at Salin des Badons, also seen at other sites in the Camargue
  61. Green Sandpiper- seen regularly in small numbers across the Camargue
  62. Common Sandpiper- several at Etang du Fangassier and one by the Gardon River
  63. Redshank- several at Salin des Badons
  64. Greenshank- several at Salin des Badons
  65. Eurasian Curlew- several at Etang du Fangassier
  66. Common Snipe- a small flock at Salin des Badons
  67. Black-headed Gull- very common throughout the Camargue
  68. Mediterranean Gull- common in the Camargue
  69. Yellow-legged Gull- very common in the Camargue
  70. Lesser Black-backed Gull- common in the Camargue
  71. Sandwich Tern- common in the Camargue
  72. Little Tern- common in the Camargue
  73. Gull-billed Tern- very common at most sites in the Camargue
  74. Common Tern- common in the Camargue
  75. Whiskered Tern- large numbers at Mas d'Agon

  78. Collared Dove- abundant everywhere
  79. Turtle Dove- seen regularly at Mas de l'Aveugle
  80. Tawny Owl- heard calling on one night at Mas de l'Aveugle
  81. Scops Owl- heard calling every night at Mas de l'Aveugle, and two birds seen on four occasions on one evening.
  82. Swift- generally common at all sites
  83. Alpine Swift- abundant at the Pont du Gard, in the Cevennes and at Mt Ventoux
  84. Hoopoe- very common at most sites, one group of 15 seen at Mas de l'Aveugle
  85. Kingfisher- 6 seen while kayaking on the Gardon River
  86. Bee-eater- common at most sites, several hundred seen together over Mas de l'Aveugle
  87. Roller- seen regularly in the Camargue, common at Mas de l'Aveugle, including a group of 14 seen together
  88. Green Woodpecker- seen regularly at Mas de l'Aveugle
  89. Great Spotted Woodpecker- seen regularly at Mas de l'Aveugle
  90. Skylark- seen regularly at Mas de l'Aveugle
  91. Crested Lark- several seen near Le Sambuc in the Camargue
  92. Short-toed Lark- common only at Terme Blanc in La Crau
  93. Calandra Lark- at least two with Short-toed Larks at Terme Blanc
  94. Sand Martin- common in the Camargue
  95. Crag Martin- abundant at the Pont du Gard, in the Cevennes and at Mt Ventoux. Also one over Mas de l'Aveugle
  96. Barn Swallow- abundant everywhere
  97. House Martin- abundant everywhere
  98. Tawny Pipit- common at Mas de l'Aveugle and abundant at La Crau
  99. Tree Pipit- very common at Mt Ventoux
  100. White Wagtail- common at all sites
  101. Yellow Wagtail- good numbers at Etang du Fangassier
  102. Robin- only one seen! At Mt Ventoux
  103. Nightingale- one in the garden at Mas de l'Aveugle
  104. Common Redstart- a female was regularly seen at Mas de l'Aveugle, also five at Pont du Gard, one at Mt Ventoux and a stunning adult male in a garden in a village near M d l'A
  105. Black Redstart- common at most sites, particularly Mont Ventoux and Mas de l'Aveugle
  106. Northern Wheatear- several at an alpine meadow up Mont Ventoux and in the fields around Mas de l'Aveugle and La Crau
  107. Whinchat- several at Eyguieres Airstrip at La Crau
  108. Stonechat- common at Mas de l'Aveugle and La Crau
  109. Song Thrush- a small flock near Mas de l'Aveugle
  110. Mistle Thrush- three at Mt Ventoux
  111. Blackbird
  112. Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush- a male and a female seen at Chalet Reynard, Mt Ventoux
  113. Garden Warbler- one near Mas de l'Aveugle 
  114. Blackcap- several at Mont Ventoux
  115. Common Whitethroat- common at most sites
  116. Lesser Whitethroat- one at Mont Ventoux and one near Mas de l'Aveugle
  117. Sardinian Warbler- one at Salin des Badons
  118. Subalpine Warbler- two seen around Mas de l'Aveugle
  119. Dartford Warbler- one near Mas de l'Aveugle
  120. Zitting Cisticola- seen at Etang du Fangassier and at Salin des Badons
  121. Cetti's Warbler- two at Salin des Badons
  122. Reed Warbler- common in the Camargue
  123. Marsh Warbler- several in a roadside ditch near Mas de l'Aveugle
  124. Icterine Warbler- one in the garden at Mas de l'Aveugle, which took a very long time to separate from Melodious Warbler!
  125. Melodious Warbler- common at several sites, particularly Mas de l'Aveugle
  126. Willow Warbler- seen regularly at Mas de l'Aveugle
  127. Chiffchaff- common at most sites
  128. Western Bonelli's Warbler- two seen very well in the forest near the Pont du Gard
  129. Firecrest- several seen very well in the forest near the Pont du Gard and two seen while broken down on Mont Ventoux
  130. Spotted Flycatcher- common at Mt Ventoux and in the forest near the Pont du Gard
  131. Red-breasted Flycatcher- a great surprise to find a juvenile female of this scarce passage migrant in the garden at Mas de l'Aveugle
  132. Pied Flycatcher- remarkably abundant around Mas de l'Aveugle and at Mt Ventoux, also a single bird seen in the forest near the Pont du Gard
  133. Great Tit
  134. Blue Tit
  135. Coal Tit- one at Mt Ventoux
  136. Crested Tit- two seen very well at Mt Ventoux
  137. Iberian/Southern Grey Shrike- one at Mas de l'Aveugle
  138. Red-backed Shrike- two seen, including one in the garden, at Mas de l'Aveugle
  139. Woodchat Shrike- common around Mas de l'Aveugle
  140. Magpie
  141. Jay- common at Mas de l'Aveugle, also three seen at Les Baux
  142. Jackdaw
  143. Red-billed Chough- a flock of 30 seen at Circque de Navacelles in the Cevennes
  144. Alpine Chough- several seen at Mont Ventoux
  145. Rook
  146. Carrion Crow
  147. Raven- two flew over Mas de l'Aveugle
  148. Starling
  149. Golden Oriole- seen regularly at Mas de l'Aveugle, including one group of five
  150. House Sparrow
  151. Tree Sparrow- only three seen (though I didn't really search through the sparrows)- one at Mas d'Agon and two in field near Mas de l'Aveugle
  152. Chaffinch- at Mt Ventoux
  153. Goldfinch
  154. Greenfinch- three at Mas de l'Aveugle
  155. Serin- a juvenile seen twice at Mas de l'Aveugle, and good numbers at Mt Ventoux
  156. Reed Bunting- common in the Camargue
  157. Cirl Bunting- regular at Mas de l'Aveugle
  158. Corn Bunting- one seen on the last day near Mas de l'Aveugle
  159. Rock Bunting- two at Chalet Reynard, Mont Ventoux
Also seen were two presumed escapes: a group of five black swans on a roadside lake near Saint Martin de Crau and a white muscovy duck on the Gardon River near the Pont du Gard.

Mammals:

2. Hare- one at Mas de l'Aveugle
3. Beaver- two at Parc Ornothologique du Pont de Gau, Camargue
